Sunny Warm Weather

Posted by Lori Pepe-Lunche on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, In : Garden

Really makes me crave my weekend mornings out on the back deck with my incredible live-in barista's special cappuccino.

There are some FANTASTIC outdoor rugs available right now to spruce it up.

One of my current favorites is the Outdoor Dhurrie by West Elm which is on special.

Not only would it look great on the deck, but it could even be used to drape over an old bench to give it a fresh new look (without even having to get a new...

Flowerland

Posted by Lori Pepe-Lunche on Friday, February 3, 2012, In : Garden

On the quiet part of Solano Avenue in Albany there lives a nursery that has been there for years. It was a sleepy little spot with nothing unusual going on until...Voila! Three years ago Carly Dennett bought this little nursery and turned it into a magical spot... the new Flowerland.

With her background in professional gardening, her lifetime love of nurseries, and her merchandising experience, she continues to morph this place into more than a nursery; a place for creative ideas, beautiful ...

It's A Jungle Out There...

A Cactus Jungle!

This fantastic little succulent and cactus nursery has been in operation for 15 years while gaining national attention for...

their creative succulent walls and wreaths.

I thought these little succulents that come in coconut fiber pots for just $3.50 would make the perfect little gifts. There are many varieties available and all you need to do is tie a ribbon around them!

They utilize all organic and sustainable materials to raise the healthiest little cactus and succulents ...

Don't Do It!

Posted by Janelle Renée on Friday, June 17, 2011, In : Garden

Whenever I come across a yard that has a toilet or tub planter, I cringe and then wonder many things. For example, I love claw foot tubs. How is it that a claw foot tub can look luxurious and beautiful in a bathroom yet look cheap and tacky in a yard planted with even the prettiest flowers?

A Succulent Centerpiece...Inside and Out

Posted by Lori Pepe-Lunche on Friday, June 10, 2011, In : Garden

I always like to have some sort of flower arrangement on my dining table. This only becomes a challenge when I’m entertaining and it’s time to eat.  Usually the arrangement needs to leave the table or is moved down to the end of the table so that everyone doesn’t have to fight the flowers in order to have a conversation. Half the experience of eating is visual after all, so it would be nice to find a way to keep it there.

This centerpiece can remain in the center of the table because ...

Create A Tropical Paradise In Your Own Backyard

Posted by Lori Pepe-Lunche on Friday, May 27, 2011, In : Garden
It is actually fairly easy to grow a tropical paradise in your own backyard. Despite the fact that it does not feel very tropical here in Berkeley, it is moist here and temperatures rarely dip below freezing. If you have even the smallest south facing exposure, you have what you need to create a tropical paradise in your Bay Area backyard!

Hawaii is one of my favorite places, mostly because of the weather, the plants, the water, and the pace.

You find incredible colors as well as a...

Succulent Fun

Posted by Lori Pepe-Lunche on Monday, February 14, 2011, In : Garden

Although the weather here in California could not be nicer, especially for this time of year, it is still a bit too cold to be planting wonderful summer vegetables and beautiful spring flowers.  It certainly feels like spring though; so why not do a quick spruce up of your containers and planter boxes?

I’ve found that keeping some containers filled with succulents satisfies me year round.  They are virtually effortless and extremely forgiving: they grow in the shade, if you forget to water t...
